News Updates

We got some exciting news from K9’s For Warriors last month.  You have donated enough for us to sponsor another Warrior and K9.  It was so gratifying to see Adam and Blaze graduate 15 months ago.  We are beyond excited to have this honor once again.  Thanks to all of you for your support.

Now, we just need to come up with a name for this next K9.  Blaze was named for the white blazes which marked the Appalachian Trail.  I’m hoping for something related to the Camino de Santiago.  If you have an idea, please let me know.

I get asked on a frequent basis what my next adventure will be.  My response has been that I have a few things in mind but that I wasn’t ready to commit to anything yet.  Well, I’m ready now.

Get your bike tires inflated and strap on your helmet.  We’re going on a little bike ride.  In the summer of 2021, we’ll hop on a bike and ride from Anacortes, WA (very NW corner of continental US) to Key West, FL.

It’s somewhere around 4,700 miles so should be a challenge.  I have as much cycling experience as I did hiking experience before the AT.  That would be 0.  I have ridden a bike before so it shouldn’t be a problem!!

One of the highlights of this ride will be travelling along Hwy 12 in South Dakota from Mobridge to Ortonville, MN.  I will pass right through my hometown of Bristol, SD!  I’ll also ride right near our current home in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

Thanks once again for all the support you have given me in these adventures.  I can never tell each of you how much that means  to me.  I look forward to taking you along once again.

Happy trails.

  1. You are a friggin’ beast Jeff! Can’t wait to hear about your adventures. Two questions: Are you going solo; and are you camping or staying in hotels?

  2. Great news and congratulations. the bike ride sounds like a blast. You may not know it but I used to ride 10,000 miles/year. Are you using an existing bike route as you plan the ride? There are people who do this ride every year and have scoped out the best route that is bike friendly. don

  3. Pete, that sounds like fun. ECRM is in Jacksonville at Sawgrass next year. Sure to see you then.

  4. Awesome!!! Bring spare tires for your ride… also, if you fall, it may hurt a little more…

As for names… make it simple… Camino de Santiago = Cam (Cami/Cammy) or San (Sandy)… if you really want to stretch it, call him Diego (as in “San” Diego)… lastly, which I don’t recommend, Gardner or Stache (as in Mustache)… LOL

Just my two cents… hope all is well! Bags

  5. Hey Jeff! This is so exciting!! Congrats on the sponsorship and for your next venture!

I have to say, I never would have expected your retirement to be this adventurous. I figured a lot of golf in lots of places. Funny thing, with all the places you’ve been – you haven’t golfed in any. LOL Kudos to you, regardless! Life is Good for you Jeff. It’s fun to follow your journeys. Is Chris going with you this time (you mentioned ‘we’)?

RE name: maybe after a person you met or after something that struck you spiritually during the walks… Or maybe call him/her “smiley or happy” since everyone there was just that. I will keep thinking…

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Have a great day!

    Best regards,

  6. You are a gluten for punishment! But I look forward to following your adventure! Good luck and thanks for all you have done for SunDial Manor.

  7. Well there you go, after the bike trip you can use Bristol or maybe Dakota as a K-9 name!

Best of luck, looking forward to your next adventure.

  8. “rastros felices—-spanish for “happy trails”.    Call him rastros or happy for short….

Sounds like a safe trip this time, except for the trek through South Dakota…….

  9. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Darn Jeff.
why am I not amazed. Knew something was coming, but not this. Maybe the biggest challenge yet.
Assume, you will be riding some 50-100+ miles a day or so, so take it from an old Dutch bicyclist : buy some rare steaks every so often while on the road. not so much to eat, but to put between your butt and the saddle to reduce the pain and swelling, which undoubtedly will come 🤪😨.
Looking forward to following the blog. You may meet the wildest people yet. Will be fun.

  10. Nice post PETE – sounds dangerous with trucks and all. Your post mentions “WE”, someone else going with you??

Also, Hwy 12 goes thru Milbank too – you can stay with Randy that nite – haha!! And have a nice steak at the Lantern after one in Bristol the night before!!

  11. Great news Jeff! I also wondered if Kris was part of the “we” but I quickly came to my senses!!
Someone suggested HOLA for the dogs name. That seems appropriate as we all looked forward to your “hola smile of the day” on your Santiago trek!

    So proud of you👍👍

  12. Wow, that’s all exciting news Jeff! Start working on those leg muscles! Look forward to having dinner with you and Chris next month. Heartbreaker for the Gators at LSU. Baylor should be a huge test also. But they are kids and usually snap back. xo
