My wife, Kris, and I are retired and live in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. We have been married for 33 years and have 2 beautiful daughters (Brooke and Kerri) who are in their twenties.
March 31, 2017 I began a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. At that point in my life I had zero hiking experience and was not fond of camping. Over the next 164 days I discovered that I was actually a pretty decent hiker and I didn’t mind camping. Who’d have known!
I also discovered that I had a very generous and supportive group of family and friends. We raised more than $67,000 that was donated to the charities I hiked for.
I completed the 2,190 miles of the AT on September 10, 2017. Throughout the hike, if you’d have asked me if a was going to do something like this again, the answer would have been a definitive no.
It took me about 3 months to physically recover from the rigors of the AT. After I was back to “normal” I realized that I need to have a goal to be shooting for. Since I can hike, I might as well hike again!
In May of 2019 I will begin a hike across Spain and Portugal. I will be hiking 5 different sections of the Camino de Santiago totaling nearly 900 miles.
I hope you’ll follow along.
