Just Pete

My wife, Kris, and I are retired and live in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. We have been married for 37 years and have two wonderful daughters (Brooke and Kerri).

On March 31, 2017, I embarked on an incredible journey, a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail.  This endeavor was quite a departure for me, given my complete lack of hiking experience and aversion to camping.  However, over 2,190 miles and 164 days, I discovered I was a decent hiker and didn’t mind camping.  Who’d have known!

I also discovered that I had a very generous and supportive group of family and friends.  We collectively raised over $67,000 for the charities close to my heart.

While on the hike, if you’d asked me whether I would consider a similar endeavor again, my response would have been a resounding “no. ” Yet, after three months of recovery, I realized I needed a new goal to strive towards.

Come May 2019. embarked on a hike across the landscapes of Spain and Portugal. I hiked 5 different sections of the Camino de Santiago, totaling 820 miles. Once again, the kindness of supporters shone through, contributing $37,000 to charitable causes!

I had more than 3,000 miles under my belt and was realizing that I was pretty good at the hiking thing. I needed a new challenge, so I decided to find out if I could ride a bicycle.

In June of 2021, I started pedaling from Anacortes, WA. After 81 days and 4,535 miles, I was in Key West, FL.  The support of those around me translated into $50,000 in charity donations.

And now, I’m preparing to release my first book, titled “It’s Just Walking: Just Pete on the Appalachian Trail.” I wholeheartedly hope that you enjoy my AT journey.

Happy trails!
