My wife, Kris, and I are retired and live in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. We have been married for 35 years and have 2 beautiful daughters (Brooke and Kerri).
March 31, 2017 I began a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. At that point in my life I had zero hiking experience and was not fond of camping. Over the next 2,190 miles and 164 days I discovered that I was actually a pretty decent hiker and I didn’t mind camping. Who’d have known!
I also discovered that I had a very generous and supportive group of family and friends. We raised more than $67,000 that was donated to the charities I hiked for.
Throughout the hike, if you’d have asked me if a was going to do something like this again, the answer would have been a definitive no. However, after 3 months of recovery, I realized that I need to have a goal to be shooting for.
In May of 2019 I began a hike across Spain and Portugal. I hiked 5 different sections of the Camino de Santiago totaling 820 miles. We raised $37,000 for charities on this hike!
In June of 2021 I’m going to see if I can ride a bike. My goal is to ride 4,800 miles from Anacortes, WA to Key West, FL. Wish me luck!
I hope you’ll follow along.
Happy trails!
