Introducing my sleep system :
On the left, weighing in at 2 lb. 3 oz. Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 1 (tent). In the center, weighing 1 lb. 10 oz. REI Flash (sleeping bag). And on the right, Sea to Summit Sleeping Mat weighing 1 lb. Total weight of 4 lb. 13 0z.
My new home. 22 square feet of luxury living. I’m going to have to practice setting up a few more times. Took about 1/2 hour and several curse words (sorry, Mom!). Now, if I can only get them back into their tiny little stuff sacks!
Thanks for following my adventure. Hope you are able to pledge support to one of 3 charities.

A small flask or two may also be in order.
What is your preferred footwear?
I need a Clydesdale to carry my Budweiser.
Going to be wearing trail runners (heavy duty tennis shoes). Haven’t purchased yet. Leader right now if Altra Lone Peak 3.0.
Have a water filter but heard they get clogged fairly quickly. Also taking Aqumira drops to purify…just in case.
What do you eat? I would suggest taking several power bars to keep from starving on the trail. Are there restaurants along the way or are you on your own?
I can get to a town every 3 days or so. In town, I will re-supply, take a shower, sleep in a bed and pig out at some type of restaurant.
On the trail, I will carry my own food. I’m focusing on foods that are high in calories/oz of weight. I am planning to blog this week-end with more specifics of what I’ll be typically carrying for food and how I will cook my freeze-dried meals! Stay tuned.
Thanks for your support.
I recommend the book,”A man, a can, a plan.” Great simple recipes using canned goods. I know you don’t want to carry a lot of cans but one or two may not be too bad. I bet they will taste a lot better than freeze dried food. After all, you are not going into outer space, you are just hiking the Appalachian trail!
Thanks, Terra! Cans are heavier than I want. I really appreciate your support. Tell Becky I may need a ride into Charlottesville early June.
Thanks again. You are the best!
Make sure to take some bear repellent!
I have a whistle!
